4 arrested after world champion boxer Zolani Tete shot dead, woman injured in South Africa
Two-time boxing world champion Zolani Tete, 38, was shot and killed on Friday evening while returning to his home in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, South Africa; a 27-year-old woman with him was injured and hospitalized. South African police announced Monday that four suspects aged 22–28 were arrested over the weekend in connection with the murder, with one formally charged. Tete was a celebrated fighter who held the IBF junior-bantamweight title (2014) and WBO bantamweight title (2017), and famously recorded the fastest knockout in world championship boxing history — just 11 seconds — against Siboniso Gonya.
