7 straight walks?! It hadn't happened in almost 43 years
The Cincinnati Reds suffered a 17-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on Saturday, during which Reds pitchers Rhett Lowder and Connor Phillips combined to issue seven consecutive walks in the bottom of the second inning, tying a Major League Baseball record that had only occurred twice before. The last time this record was matched was nearly 43 years ago. Lowder was charged with eight runs over just 1⅓ innings, with the seven-walk sequence contributing to a five-run inning as 10 batters came to the plate without a hit.
