Active Aero switched off for 2026 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix as FIA prioritizes safety
The FIA has ruled that Formula 1's new Active Aero system will be disabled for the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix, requiring all cars to remain in maximum downforce (Corner Mode) configuration throughout the event. The Active Aero system, introduced with F1's 2026 regulations, normally allows front and rear wings to automatically shift between a low-drag Straight Mode and a high-downforce Corner Mode depending on circuit section. Monaco's narrow streets, short straights, and slow-speed corners prompted the FIA to make the safety-driven decision ahead of this weekend's race.
