African Athletics Championships 2026: Cheickna Traore and Maboundou Kone win gold as Cote D'Ivoire sweep 200m titles
Côte d'Ivoire swept both 200m titles on the final day of the 2026 African Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana on Sunday, 17 May. Maboundou Koné won the women's 200m in 23.35 seconds, claiming her first individual continental title after finishing silver in the same event two years ago in Douala, while Cheickhna Traore claimed the men's title. Both athletes paid tribute to Ivorian sprint icons Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith and Murielle Ahouré for inspiring their careers.
