Alekna throws Diamond League record, Dos Santos and Jefferson-Wooden win key clashes in Silesia

Lithuanian discus thrower Mykolas Alekna set a new Diamond League record of 72.58m at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Silesia on 23 August 2026, improving his own previous record of 71.70m set in London. All four of his valid throws exceeded 71 metres, with the record coming in the fifth round, while Kristjan Čeh finished second with 68.93m and Daniel Ståhl third with 68.25m. Alison dos Santos, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, and Collen Kebinatshipi also claimed victories at the meeting, with Mondo Duplantis among the other world record-holders to win.
