Alex Wurz and Carsten Tilke shed light on the Rwandan Grand Prix Formula 1 circuit
Former Formula 1 driver Alex Wurz and circuit designer Carsten Tilke have revealed details about the planned Rwandan Grand Prix circuit, located in Bugesera approximately 40 kilometres south of Kigali. Wurz, speaking to Naomi Schiff for a special edition of Up To Speed filmed in Rwanda, described a technically demanding layout featuring a signature 'Forest Canopy Corner' where drivers briefly disappear into the African forest, warning that mistakes at one corner could compromise an entire sequence of turns. The venue forms part of Formula 1's recently announced 10-year agreement with Rwanda, with Wurz suggesting the circuit could offer better racing than Suzuka and approach the standards of Austin's Circuit of the Americas.
