Alukunyang Named Track Runner of the Year at HBCU Sports Awards

North Carolina Central University freshman Aaron Alukunyang was named the 2026 Men's Track and Field Runner of the Year at the third annual HBCU Sports Awards, held in Cross Roads, Texas. The Kenyan-born athlete won three gold medals at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May, sweeping the 10,000m, 5,000m, and 1,500m events and setting a meet record in the 10,000m with a time of 30:06.86. He also earned the MEAC Most Outstanding Men's Track Athlete award and All-MEAC First Team honors in all three events, contributing 30 points to NCCU's team total.
