Andreas Almgren storms to world half-marathon title with European record

Swedish runner Andreas Almgren won the world half-marathon title at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen on Sunday, September 20, clocking a European record of 58:06 — breaking his own previous record of 58:41 set in Valencia. He outkicked Kenya's Nicholas Kipkorir in the final 100 metres to win by five seconds, with Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei taking bronze in a personal best of 58:26. The 31-year-old, who also holds the European 10,000m title and a Tokyo Olympic bronze, now ranks ninth on the world all-time half-marathon list and is set to make his marathon debut in New York City in early November.
