Anthony Taylor retires from elite refereeing

Anthony Taylor, 47, has announced his retirement from elite refereeing after more than 20 years and 831 matches officiated. The English referee took charge of 432 Premier League matches across 16 seasons and 163 international fixtures, appearing at two FIFA World Cups (2022 and 2026) and two UEFA European Championships. His final appointment was the FIFA World Cup 2026 round-of-16 tie between Portugal and Spain in the United States.
