Antonelli crowned F1's youngest-ever world champion
Kimi Antonelli, 20, became the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history by clinching the 2026 drivers' title after finishing third at the Mexico City Grand Prix, surpassing Sebastian Vettel's previous record set in 2010 at age 23. The Mercedes driver accomplished the feat in only his second F1 season, having replaced Lewis Hamilton in 2025, winning five consecutive races early in the year including victories in China, Belgium, Spain, and a remarkable comeback win at Monza from 19th on the grid. Antonelli's title ended Italy's 73-year wait for a third Formula 1 world champion, following Giuseppe Farina in 1950 and Alberto Ascari in 1952โ1953.
