Argentina pausing league games in Messi tribute

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced that all domestic matches this weekend will be paused in the 10th minute for a minute of applause to honour Lionel Messi following his retirement from international football. Messi, 39, confirmed on Monday via Instagram that his final match for Argentina was the 2026 World Cup final loss to Spain. During his international career, Messi scored 125 goals, appeared in six World Cups — winning in 2022 — and holds tournament records for most games played (34) and most victories (23).
