Aryna Sabalenka’s comeback lightning can’t strike twice as Jessica Pegula surges to Berlin win
Jessica Pegula defeated world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-0 in the semifinals of the Berlin Tennis Open on Saturday. Sabalenka had recovered from a rain delay that interrupted play at 6-4, 6-6 (2-1) in the second-set tiebreak, winning six of seven points to force a deciding set, but was then bageled 6-0 in the third — the second time in four matches she has lost a deciding set by that scoreline. Pegula advances to the final, where she will face either Alex Eala of the Philippines or Linda Nosková of the Czech Republic.
