ATHLETICS: Brazil’s dos Santos says “no words to explain” 400 m hurdles world-record run in Zurich; Russell says “I dreamed about this”

At the 2026 Weltklasse Zurich meet, Brazil's Alison dos Santos shattered the 400m hurdles world record with a stunning time of 45.80 seconds, breaking the previous mark held by Karsten Warholm of Norway. Dos Santos, the 2022 World Champion who had not improved his personal best since running 46.29, was undefeated in five races this season heading into the race. The meet also featured two world records in total, marking the 26th and 27th world records in the history of the prestigious event, which dates back to 1928.
