Atlanta issues permits for Formula 1 racing event in Summerhill this weekend

The Red Bull Showrun is scheduled for Saturday, August 1, along Hank Aaron Drive in Atlanta's Summerhill neighborhood from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring Formula 1 and off-road race cars with free public admission and an estimated attendance of nearly 50,000 people. Atlanta issued two permits for the event — an assembly permit and an outdoor festival permit — both signed on July 29 by Chief of Staff Courtney English, requiring at least 98 off-duty Atlanta Police Department officers and emergency medical services from Grady Event EMS. The event proceeded despite the Summerhill Neighborhood Planning Unit voting twice against it and the Summerhill Neighborhood Association raising concerns over noise, traffic, and MARTA bus rerouting.
