Austrian GP track breakdown: F1’s mountain sprint at the mighty Red Bull Ring
Formula 1 returns to the Red Bull Ring in Austria for the Austrian Grand Prix, held on one of the calendar's shortest tracks at just 2.7 miles. The circuit has a storied history, first hosting racing in 1969 as the Österreichring before being redesigned by Hermann Tilke and later purchased by Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz in 2004. Track limits have been a major point of controversy in recent years, with 47 lap times deleted during qualifying in 2023 and eight drivers receiving 12 combined penalties on race day, altering the final classification.
