Barry Melrose, former NHL broadcaster and coach, dies at 70

Barry Melrose, a prominent NHL coach and broadcaster, died Wednesday at the age of 70, as announced by the NHL. Melrose played 300 NHL games with three franchises and coached the Wayne Gretzky-led Los Angeles Kings to the 1993 Stanley Cup Final in his first season as head coach. He went on to become a beloved ESPN studio analyst from 1996 until 2023, when he retired following a Parkinson's disease diagnosis.
