Basavareddy stuns Fritz at Roland Garros

American wild card Nishesh Basavareddy, ranked 148th in the world, defeated seventh seed and fellow American Taylor Fritz 7-6(5), 7-6(5), 6-7(9), 6-1 in 2 hours and 45 minutes in the first round of Roland Garros on Sunday. The 21-year-old former Stanford student claimed his first career Top-10 victory, advancing to the second round for the second consecutive Grand Slam. Basavareddy became the first American man to beat a Top-10 opponent at Roland Garros since Jan-Michael Gambill defeated Nicolas Kiefer in 2000.
