Beau Hossler leads Wyndham Championship after opening 61, needs victory to make FedExCup Playoffs

Beau Hossler shot an opening-round 61 to lead the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the final event of the PGA Tour regular season that determines the top 70 players advancing to the FedExCup Playoffs. Virginia graduate Ben James, the No. 1 player in the PGA Tour University rankings, eagled both par 5s but finished with a 62 after a bogey-birdie-bogey closing stretch, and like Hossler, needs a victory to secure a Playoffs spot. Jackson Koivun, who earned his Tour card through the accelerated PGA Tour University program as a sophomore, enters the week in a stronger position at No. 70 in the FedExCup standings.
