Bergs stuns Alcaraz in Shanghai as Zverev claims year’s top tennis ranking

Seven-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz was upset by unseeded Belgian Zizou Bergs 7-5, 7-6(4) in the Shanghai Masters round of 32 on October 12, 2026. The two-hour, two-minute match saw Alcaraz, who had recently returned from a nearly five-month wrist injury and defended his Japan Open title, fail to find his rhythm against the Belgian. The result simultaneously confirmed Alexander Zverev as the ATP year-end world number one for 2026.
