American Teofimo Lopez defeated Rolando Romero by majority decision at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday to claim the WBA 'Super' welterweight world title, becoming a three-weight world champion having previously held titles at lightweight and light-welterweight. The 29-year-old Lopez notably declined to call out British mandatory challenger Jack Catterall after the fight, instead expressing interest in facing the winner of the upcoming WBC welterweight title bout. Romero had been making the first defence of his world title.
