British boxing authorities considering introduction of new weight class
The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) is considering introducing a new men's light cruiserweight division with a 185-pound weight limit, which would sit between the existing light heavyweight (175 lbs) and cruiserweight (200 lbs) divisions β currently the largest gap between any two weight classes in boxing. The proposal is in its early stages, with BBBofC General Secretary Robert W. Smith recently emailing license holders to gather their opinions. The board cited health and safety concerns and the increasing size of modern athletes as key reasons for exploring the new division.
