BURGIN AND WANYONYI SET FOR LONDON DIAMOND LEAGUE SHOWDOWN

British 800m runner Max Burgin and Olympic and World champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya will face off in the men's 800m at the Novuna London Athletics Meet on 18 July 2026. Their rivalry has been closely contested, with Wanyonyi holding a meeting record of 1:42.00 from their previous London clash, while Burgin most recently beat Wanyonyi in Rabat with a world-leading 1:42.98 to claim his first Diamond League victory. Wanyonyi himself clocked 1:42.09 in Oslo, finishing second in a photo finish behind American teenager Cooper Lutkenhaus, who set a world-leading 1:42.08.
