Carlson signs 2-year, $17 million contract with Lightning

Defenseman John Carlson, 36, signed a two-year, $17 million contract ($8.5M AAV) with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday after becoming an unrestricted free agent. Carlson recorded 60 points (14 goals, 46 assists) in 71 games split between the Washington Capitals and Anaheim Ducks last season. The Carolina Hurricanes had acquired his rights from the Ducks on Saturday but were unable to reach a contract agreement before Carlson hit free agency.
