The controversy stems from Carneiro and physio Jon Fearn entering the pitch to treat Eden Hazard during a 2-2 draw with Swansea City in August 2015, with Mourinho maintaining the pair were wrong to do so. Carneiro hit back on social media platform X, defending her actions by citing medical staff's 'absolute duty of care' as outlined by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine, and also criticised Terry for backing Mourinho's account of events.
