Celebrini, at 20, named youngest captain in Sharks history

Macklin Celebrini, 20, was named captain of the San Jose Sharks on Friday, becoming the youngest captain in franchise history and the youngest current captain in the NHL. The center, entering his third NHL season, signed a five-year, $94 million contract less than two months ago and finished fourth in League scoring last season. He received his No. 71 jersey from former Sharks captain Joe Thornton, and fills the captaincy left vacant since Logan Couture's retirement on April 15, 2025.
