Celtics’ Joe Mazzulla wins ‘stupid’ NBA Coach of the Year award
Boston Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla won the NBA Coach of the Year award on Tuesday, despite previously calling the award 'stupid.' He led the Celtics to a 56-26 regular season record and the Eastern Conference's second seed, beating out finalists J.B. Bickerstaff of Detroit and Mitch Johnson of San Antonio. Mazzulla is the first Celtics coach to win the award since Bill Fitch in 1980, though Boston's season ended disappointingly with a first-round playoff loss to the 76ers.
