Chelsea still trust Penders after error - Alonso

Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders, 21, made a costly own goal by punching a corner into his own net during the 77th minute of Saturday's 2-0 Premier League loss to Tottenham, with Cole Palmer also sent off and Mathys Tel adding a late second. Despite the error in his first Premier League start, manager Xabi Alonso has publicly backed Penders and confirmed he will start Wednesday's Carabao Cup fourth-round tie at Liverpool. Defender Maxence Lacroix also offered support, describing Penders as a talented young goalkeeper who will learn from the experience.
