Chess: Adams loses first British Championship game since 1988 to rising star

English grandmaster Michael Adams, based in Taunton, lost his first British Chess Championship game since 1988 when he was defeated by Svyatoslav Bazakutsa on Tuesday. The loss ended a remarkable unbeaten streak of 87 consecutive games at the British Championship, during which Adams had claimed all nine of his British titles. Bazakutsa, described as a rising star, inflicted the defeat that snapped one of chess's most impressive domestic records.
