Coco Gauff, Mirra Andreeva and the tennis player’s challenge of getting out of their own way

Coco Gauff defeated world No. 7 Mirra Andreeva 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the Italian Open quarterfinals on Tuesday, recording her third straight comeback victory at the tournament. The 22-year-old American, who needed five match points to close out the win, improved to 5-0 against the young Russian and advanced to the Italian Open semifinals for the fourth time in her career and third consecutive year. With the French Open less than two weeks away, both Gauff, the defending Roland Garros champion, and Andreeva are considered strong contenders for the upcoming Grand Slam title.
