Column: Running the London Marathon as a guide for a blind Bridgwater veteran
Royal Navy veteran Wayne Pope, 44, from Bridgwater in Somerset, who lost his sight, completed the 2026 London Marathon running for charity Blind Veterans UK. He was guided by fellow veteran Matt Spruce, who received a last-minute message to take on the guiding role less than a week before the race. Pope ran to raise funds for the charity that helped him rebuild his independence after losing his sight.
