Commonwealth Games 2026: David Mullarkey reflects on historic first athletics medal for Isle of Man โ 'I burned through all my savings to keep the dream alive'
David Mullarkey, 26, won bronze in the men's 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 on 28 July, finishing in 27:50.28 behind winner Ky Robinson of Australia and Gulveer Singh of India. The result marks the Isle of Man's first-ever athletics medal in the competition's 96-year history, ending a 68-year wait, and its first Commonwealth Games medal in any sport since Tim Kneale's shooting silver in 2018. Mullarkey revealed he had spent his personal savings to sustain his athletic career ahead of the historic achievement.
