Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Dina Asher-Smith have withdrawn from the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow due to injury, dealt a major blow to England's athletics medal hopes. Johnson-Thompson, a two-time Commonwealth heptathlon gold medallist (2018 and 2022), and Asher-Smith, who was set to compete in the relays, are among several high-profile withdrawals. Fellow Olympic medallists Matthew Hudson-Smith and Daryll Neita, along with Amber Anning, Zac Sneddon, Anna Purchase, Elliot Giles, Jona Efoloko, and netball star Natalie Metcalf, have also pulled out on the day of the opening ceremony.
