Connor McDavid enters rarified air with early-season points pace

Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid recorded his second five-point game of the young NHL season on Saturday, helping Edmonton defeat the Utah Mammoth club 6-2. McDavid now has 23 points through eight games, a pace that only Mario Lemieux has ever surpassed in league history, with Lemieux's best start being 31 points in eight games during the 1988-89 season. McDavid's torrid pace has sparked comparisons to Wayne Gretzky's 200-point seasons, with projections suggesting he could be on track for over 215 points across the 84-game schedule.
