Cornish Pirates have secured what is described as the first known US investment into an English professional rugby club, with the funding coming from J. Kenneth Moritz and John H. Tippins, principals of Pittsburgh-based Stonewood Capital Management, Inc. The investment aligns with the club's 10-year roadmap and long-term growth strategy, as confirmed by CEO Sally Pettipher. Pittsburgh, the investors' home city, is currently bidding to host matches at the 2031 Rugby World Cup in the USA, adding further strategic significance to the partnership.
