County cricket in need of financial overhaul as over half of clubs report losses

A report by Leonard Curtis has found that 10 of the 18 English county cricket clubs reported financial losses in their 2024 accounts. The so-called 'Big Four' counties — Surrey, Lancashire, Warwickshire, and Hampshire — collectively accounted for £134 million, or 53%, of the total £253 million in revenues generated across all 18 first-class counties. The findings highlight a widening financial gulf between the sport's wealthiest and poorest clubs, raising concerns about the long-term sustainability of county cricket despite an anticipated £520 million investment from the sale of equity in The Hundred's franchises.
