Cycling Ireland president says "generational collapse" in cycling due to safety

Cycling Ireland president Ciaran Cannon has warned of a 'generational collapse' in cycling among school children, citing safety fears on the roads as the primary cause. Research by Red C/Ireland Thinks found that almost 80 per cent of children never cycle to school, with 48 per cent of respondents naming road safety as a key reason. Other factors included distance to school (54%), heavy school bags (41%), unsuitable uniforms for secondary school students (49%), and weather conditions (39%).
