British cyclist Evie Richards narrowly missed out on the Elite Women XCC short track world championship title at the 2026 UCI MTB World Championships on Thursday 27 August. Richards, who made a strong start from the second row and led heading into the final sprint on the tenth and final lap, was edged out on the line by Austria's Laura Stigger by the smallest of margins. Richards finished in second place in what was described as a heartbreaking result.
