Daniil Medvedev: Defaulted for hitting a spectator with the ball but was it the right decision or should he have been able to play on?

Daniil Medvedev was defaulted from his semi-final match against Novak Djokovic at the ATP 1000 Shanghai Masters (China Open) after hitting a spectator with the ball. Medvedev was trailing 7-5, 5-3 when the incident occurred, with the ball striking a spectator in the first row who appeared to suffer an eye injury and was assisted out of the stadium. Tennis pundits Johanna Konta and Jonathan Overend both acknowledged that Medvedev was 'unfortunate' to have been defaulted, raising debate over whether the decision was correct.
