DC Open Quadruples Revenues: How It Rewrote Its Economics

The Mubadala DC Open has quadrupled its revenues since 2019, according to tournament chairman Mark Ein, driven by increases across ticketing, sponsorships, and concessions. Ein, a venture capitalist who also holds minority ownership in the Washington Commanders and Baltimore Orioles, acquired the tournament in 2019 and has achieved 100% ticket sales every year since (excluding the 2020 COVID-19 cancellation). Despite the revenue surge, total player prize money has grown at less than half that rate, highlighting how professional tennis's tour-level decision-making structure limits how individual tournament success translates into higher purses.
