Diamond League: Emmanuel Wanyonyi breaks men's 1,000m world record in Monaco

Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the reigning 800m world champion, broke the 27-year-old men's 1,000m world record at the Diamond League meeting in Monaco, running the distance for the first time competitively. The 21-year-old finished ahead of Great Britain's Jake Wightman, 31, who pushed him hard but had to settle for second place. Julien Alfred also produced a notable 200m performance at the same meeting.
