Diamond League: Emmanuel Wanyonyi breaks men's 1,000m world record in Monaco

Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi, 21, broke the 27-year-old men's 1,000m world record at the Diamond League meeting in Monaco, running a time of 2 minutes 11.83 seconds on his debut at the distance. The reigning 800m world champion was pushed hard by Great Britain's Jake Wightman, 31, who finished second. Julien Alfred also ran a notable 200m at the same event.
