Diego Maradona's 'Hand of God' football from 1986 World Cup win over England sells for £2.5m
The football used by Diego Maradona to score the infamous 'Hand of God' goal in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final has sold at auction for £2.5 million. Maradona punched the ball past England goalkeeper Peter Shilton in Argentina's 2-1 victory, later describing the goal as scored 'a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God.' The ball had previously been sold at auction in 2022 before reaching this new sale price.
