Diriba breaks course record, Berhanu threatens mark at Amsterdam Marathon

At the TCS Amsterdam Marathon on 18 October 2026, Ethiopia's Buze Diriba set a new course record of 2:16:12, improving the previous Dutch all-comers' record of 2:16:52 set by Yalemzerf Yehualaw in 2024. Her compatriot Lemi Berhanu, the 2016 Boston Marathon champion, won the men's race in 2:03:33, missing the course record by just three seconds and taking a minute off his decade-old personal best. The women's podium was an all-Ethiopian sweep, with defending champion Aynalem Desta finishing second in a PB of 2:17:06 and Meseret Belete third in 2:18:06.
