
Division I adopts age-based eligibility model
The NCAA Division I Cabinet unanimously approved a major overhaul of eligibility rules on Tuesday, shifting to an age-based eligibility model for student-athletes. The changes, not yet final until the Cabinet meeting concludes Wednesday, are designed to simplify eligibility rules and may allow some student-athletes an additional season of competition. NCAA President Charlie Baker and Cabinet Chair Josh Whitman both emphasized the reforms aim to better align athletics eligibility with general student enrollment and graduation patterns.
