Division II adopts age-based eligibility model
NCAA Division II has adopted a new age-based eligibility model that ties a five-year period of eligibility to a student-athlete's age and initial full-time collegiate enrollment, replacing the previous system based on seasons of competition and semesters or quarters. The new model will take effect beginning with the 2026-27 academic year and includes limited exceptions. The change represents a significant structural shift in how eligibility is determined for Division II student-athletes.
