DOJ opens civil rights probe into MLB after Giants' Pride Night hat controversy
The U.S. Department of Justice has opened a civil rights investigation into MLB following a controversy involving San Francisco Giants pitchers Landen Roupp, JT Brubaker, and Ryan Walker, who were warned by MLB for writing Bible verses on their Pride Night caps. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon sent a letter to MLB commissioner Rob Manfred announcing the DOJ is referring the league to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, citing the Civil Rights Act's requirement that employers accommodate employees' religious objections. San Francisco Pride director Suzanne Ford criticized the DOJ probe, saying it is deepening divisions rather than resolving the situation, while the Giants stated they support Pride Night but also respect players' personal choices.
