Dusty May to Mavs: Latest news as Michigan coach leaves, school looks within for replacement
Dusty May, who led Michigan to the 2026 national championship, is leaving to become the next head coach of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, as confirmed by USA TODAY Sports. He becomes the first college coach to jump to the NBA since fellow Michigan man John Beilein did so in 2019, and the first to make the move after winning a national title since Larry Brown left Kansas in 1988. Michigan is reportedly working to elevate assistant Mike Boynton Jr., a former seven-year head coach at Oklahoma State, to interim head coach.
