Ehammer soars to decathlon long jump world record
Swiss athlete Simon Ehammer set a decathlon long jump world record of 8.51m and the greatest ever first-day decathlon score of 4762 at the Götzis Hypomeeting in Austria on May 30, surpassing Dan O'Brien's 1991 mark of 4747. The 26-year-old, who also won the world indoor heptathlon title in a world record of 6670 in March, leads overnight ahead of reigning world champion Leo Neugebauer (4632) and Canada's Damian Warner (4541). Ehammer's long jump also represented a world lead and a Swiss national record.
