Russian tennis player Ekaterina Alexandrova, the top seed and world No. 19, collapsed on court during the third set of her WTA Memphis Tennis Classic match against Kristina Liutova, with temperatures reaching 34 degrees Celsius after more than three hours of play. Alexandrova was 5-4 down in the deciding set when play was stopped for lengthy medical treatment, but she was ultimately unable to continue and retired from the match. The victory went to 16-year-old Liutova, who was playing her debut match on the WTA Tour and was seen in tears at the conclusion.
