England's Jack Whaley secured his spot at The Open in 2027 after winning the US Amateur Championship

Doncaster-born golfer Jack Whaley won the 2026 US Amateur Championship on Sunday, defeating American Jay Leng Jr 3&4 in a 36-hole final at Merion Golf Club. The victory earns Whaley a place at The Open at St Andrews in 2027, having already secured spots at The Masters and the US Open by reaching the final. Whaley overcame a late comeback from Leng Jr, who levelled the match after 16 holes, before Whaley pulled clear from the 22nd hole onward to seal the title.
